Drivers enrolled in Pennsylvania’s E-ZPass program are being warned about a new phishing scam that targets account holders through text message.
Officials with the PA Turnpike say account holders will receive a text message from someone claiming to be from the “Pa Turnpike Toll Services” urgently requesting them to settle a balance on their account, or else they would be forced to pay a late fee. This is just one scam that has reportedly affected toll agencies across the nation.
Anyone who receives an unsolicited text, email or similar message is urged to not click the link inside of it and to report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. Additionally, E-ZPass account holders can check their accounts on the Turnpike’s E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app.
