Prior to this morning’s Indiana County Commissioners meeting, two area high school sports teams were honored for their achievements this year.
Commissioners honored the Marion Center girls’ basketball and Indiana High boys’ swimming and diving teams with proclamations recognizing their postseason achievements. The Stingers ended their season 24-6 with a District 6 championship and an appearance in the PIAA state championship game.
Head coach Amy Trimble said the community support helped the team excel this season.
Meanwhile, the Indiana boys ended their historic season with a PIAA state championship and eight broken school records. They became the fourth team in Indiana County history to win state gold.
Athletic Director Dan Roan said both Indiana and Marion Center exemplified their social media tag: #IndianaPride
Commissioner Robin Gorman said both teams working as a team helps set a precedent for the rest of the county.
