First responders were called out for several flooding-related incidents on Friday, including one where a vehicle was reported stuck on a flooded road.
That call was reported at 10:14 AM by Indiana County 911, and Creekside fire department and the Indiana County Water Rescue Team were dispatched to Chambersville Road in Washington Township, with Plumville fire department called in five minutes later to assist. Creekside firefighters were able to extricate the person stuck in the car without incident, and the water rescue team was cancelled en route.
In a post on the department’s Facebook page, Creekside fire officials said that the driver deliberately ignored the barricades that were set up earlier in the day to stop traffic from going through, and they also ignored signs that were put up warning people of high water.
Drivers are reminded that if a barricade is set up, do not try to go around it, as it is blocking a flooded road. The best advice when you see a road blocked by flood waters is to “turn around, don’t drown.”
First responders were also called out to pump water out of basements. Four of those calls were reported within the early morning hours, with a fifth water pumping detail reported on Taylorsville Road in Green Township at 11:24 AM. Commodore fire department was initially dispatched, with Clymer firefighters assisting a few minutes later.
The windy conditions also caused a tree to go down in Banks Township at 5:30 last night, with Glen Campbell firefighters being called out. They would then be called out at 9:04 PM for a transformer fire.
