A Bolivar man injured a Westmoreland County Sheriff’s deputy as he tried to hurt himself in court yesterday after a jury announced a guilty verdict against him.
A jury spent an hour finding 60-year-old Jerry Boring guilty of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. The charges stemmed from incidents that happened between 2018 and 2022 where he allegedly sexually assaulted a then-10-year-old that he was babysitting. Boring had refuted the allegations. There were some mental health concerns, as Judge Meghan Billik-Defazio had declared him incompetent to stand trial last May. One month later, he was declared competent, and his trial was scheduled.
After the verdict was read yesterday, Boring announced his intent to hurt himself and tried to throw himself out a window, but sheriff’s deputies subdued him using a headlock. He continued to fight with deputies as they took him to a holding cell to await transportation back to Westmoreland County Prison. One deputy was hurt in the incident. Boring will be sentenced in three months.
