A single-engine plane from Indiana County had to make an emergency landing yesterday at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport yesterday.
The distress call went out from the airplane around 1:30 PM. The pilot kept the plane circling around the airport for about an hour, after it was discovered that the airplane landing gear would not lock in place. A landing was attempted at 2:20 PM, and the landing gear folded up when the plane touched down. The aircraft slid on its underside until it came to a stop.
Reports say that the plane left Jimmy Stewart Airport in Indiana County around 1:17 yesterday. The pilot was not identified by name. No injuries were reported, and airport officials called it the best result they could get in that situation.
