One person was taken to the hospital as crews responded to a HAZMAT call late Monday morning in East Mahoning Township.
Indiana County 911 sent the Marion Center and Plumville Fire Departments, the HAZMAT team and Citizens’ Ambulance to L&S Machine Company at 50 Gahagan Road just northwest of Marion Center at 11:19 yesterday morning. Gavin Misko of the Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department said that some people at the plant initially started smelling chlorine and some had walked out of the building coughing and reporting a burning sensation in their throats.
Four people were evaluated on-scene by EMT’s and one person was taken to the hospital after it was reported they had trouble breathing. Misko said that the HAZMAT team’s investigation did not turn up a chemical spill and the building was ventilated. There is also no danger to residents or the surrounding area. The cause of the incident remains unknown at this time.
