First responders are still investigating a HAZMAT response call that happened late Monday morning in East Mahoning Township.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Marion Center and Plumville firefighters, the HAZMAT team and Citizens’ Ambulance to the L&S Machine Company at 50 Gahagan Road, northwest of Marion Center, shortly after 11 AM. People at the plant initially said they smelled chlorine in the back room and some walked out of the building coughing and reporting burning sensations in their throats.
Gavin Misko of the Marion Center Fire Department said four people were evaluated on-scene and one person had to be taken to IRMC after they had trouble breathing. HAZMAT officials are still investigating and Misko adds they initially thought chlorine was the cause of the incident, but the symptoms reported caused them to investigate further.
Once we have more information, we will pass it along to you.
