Law enforcement agencies are paying tribute to a well-loved K-9 officer from Homer City who passed away earlier this week.
In a Facebook post, police chief Anthony Jellison announced that his former K-9 partner Thor died unexpectedly at his home, 26 days after he retired from the force. Thor’s career with the Homer City Police Department started in 2014 and he responded to over 200 calls that ranged from routine patrol to tracking and uncovering narcotics.
In his post, Jellison said Thor was also one of the most-travelled K-9 officers, having gone to Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. He added that he was the “Happiest Dog at work” and the “Bestest boy at home.”
Tributes have also been paid from several law enforcement agencies in the region. In their own statement on Facebook, Indiana Borough Police called Thor “A tremendous resource to Homer City borough and to the surrounding Indiana County community.” Similar sentiments were shared by the Indiana County Sheriff’s Department and Blairsville Borough Police.
Thor passed away at the age of 11.
