SOFTBALL
In the Heritage Conference, Conemaugh Valley topped Homer-Center, 10-6. Five Blue Jays players, Maddie McCleester, Kylee Ferguson, Megan Bilak, Madddie Beiter, and Bella Winkelman, had two hits. For the Wildcats, Becca Marshall and Gigi Palmer had two hits. Marshall, Alaina Fabin and Emily Bowser each doubled and Emma Popp had a triple.
Portage outslugged Penns Manor, 12-8. Lyndsey Castel and Paige Phillips each had three hits and Kendall Stankovich and Tori Harrison each had two. The Comets were led by Morgan Jioio’s two hits and doubles by Alyssa Altemus and Macey Pegg.
Cambria Heights beat Purchase Line, 13-4, as Brea Kountz and Meghan Wholaver each had three hits for the Highlanders. For PL, Bella Cessna tripled and Addison Buterbaugh and Kaitlyn House each doubled.
West Shamokin clobbered Northern Cambria, 17-2. Malena Stewart had three hits and three RBIS and Lily Jordan homered. Madi Kearn, Leah Mondi, Aleya Talmadge, and Cameron Vandevort each had two hits.
River Valley walloped Conemaugh Township, 16-1. Ashley Pynos cracked two home runs for the Panthers, who also got two hits from Tori Foust, Bailey Dunlap, and Izabella Speal.
Marion Center scored 8 runs in the first inning and 11 in the second in a 19-0 three-inning win over United. Brookelynn Hill and Cheyenne Silvis each had a homerun. Lydia Miller led the team with 3 hits, Madison Lipsie had 2 hits and Madison Schrecongost, Maci Miller, Mya Lipsie and Natalie Black each had a hit. Cheyenne Silvis earned the win with 5 strikeouts in two innings. Kayla Hill had one strikeout.
BASEBALL
Punxsutawney erased a 4-1 deficit with a 4-run 5th inning, highlighted by Coy Martino’s three-run homer and a Parker Stahlman double in a 5-4 win over Indiana. Ethan Shank had two hits for Indiana, which had six hits in the game, all singles.
Nash Budner’s single tied the game and Owen Saiani raced home with the winning run on a throwing error to give Homer-Center a 7-6 win over Conemaugh Valley, capping a five-run rally in the bottom of the 7th for the Wildcats. Brayden Rado had two hits, including a double.
United plated a run in the top of the 7th and went on to beat Marion Center, 6-5. Caden McCully had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Ryan Felix had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Conemaugh Township’s Luke Haight’s grand slam broke the game open in a five-run 5th as the Indians beat River Valley, 6-1. Niko Vadala and Gavin Burkhart each had two hits for the Panthers.
Cambria Heights dropped Purchase Line, 11-6. Ethan Kline had two hits and two RBIs. For Purchase Line, Wyatt Sheredy had three hits. Coby Byers and John Hughes each had two.
Penns Manor’s Kayden Detwiler struck out eleven Portage batters in five-and-a-third innings as the Comets topped the Mustangs, 5-2. Tyler Cooper and Brayden Mumau each had two hits for PM.
