The Penguins took a 2-0 lead over Calgary in the first period, but surrendered three goals in the third and lost to Calgary, 4-3. It was their second straight loss on a four-game western road trip.
Things were looking good early as the Pens’ Jonathan Gruden scored his first NHL goal at the 16:42 mark of the first period, and Lars Eller added a power play goal at 19:26. After a Calgary goal in the second period by Yegor Sharangovich, the Pens got a deflection goal by Jeff Carter off a Ryan Graves slap shot at 2:51 of the third period. But Nazem Kadri scored at 10:09, and Blake Coleman scored just 32 seconds later to tie the game before Sharangovich got his second of the night, the game-winner, with 50 seconds left in regulation, following a Mikael Backlund steal and drop pass.
The Penguins visit Edmonton tonight.
