Former Pirates pitcher Al McBean died Friday at the age of 85, according to an announcement from the team.
McBean was the first MLB pitcher born in the Virgin Islands and contributed to the Pirates’ pitching staff from 1961-1968 and again in 1970, going 65-43 with a 3.08 ERA. In 10 MLB seasons, he went 67-50 as a starter and reliever with a 3.13 ERA and 575 total strikeouts.
