Pitt put up 50 points in the second half and coach Jeff Capel said they found their “competitive urgency” defensively in a come-from-behind 77-72 win over Wake Forest at the Petersen Events Center.
Bub Carrington scored 24 points, Ishmael Leggett 22, and Blake Hinson 17 to lead the Panthers, who erased a 10-point halftime deficit. Reserve forward Will Jeffress led a defensive charge that limited 7-foot Wake Forest center Efton Reid to 14 points, none in the last 9:25 of the game.
Capel says the offense helped wake up the Pitt defense in the final twenty minutes.
Pitt is 13-8 and 4-6 in the ACC. The Panthers will host Notre Dame on Saturday night.
