The PA Treasury Department is putting the word out about unclaimed property that they have possession of.
Unclaimed property in this case includes dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policies, and the contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes. Amounts can range from a few dollars to a few thousand, with the average value of a claim being around $1600. To find out if you or a family member have some unclaimed property, you can check out the treasury’s website, patreasury.gov.
All property is returned free-of-charge and there is no need to pay a private service to submit a claim. Unclaimed property can also be returned by direct deposit, and the process can be accelerated if the person provides a social security number.
