The first night of outdoor activities and music at the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival brought many people to Downtown Indiana Friday evening.
Two blocks in Downtown Indiana were full of vendors with local art, food and drinks celebrating the region’s culture. Events are scheduled to continue today in Downtown Indiana, and on the schedule today are the Storyteller’s and Liar’s contest, the Walk of Fame dedication ceremony, and music.
Another part of this year’s festival will take part away from the festival grounds, as the festival will hold a 5k run. The race will be held on the Hoodlebug trail with the starting point in front of Levity Brewing on Wayne Avenue. The race starts at 10:00 this morning.
Drivers are reminded that there are some road closures in effect, including Philadelphia Street from 7th to 5th, and Taylor and Carpenter Avenues and 6th Street will be closed from Nixon to Gompers Avenues. Along with the festival, this weekend is IUP Family Weekend, so heavier than normal foot and vehicle traffic is expected, so everyone is asked to give yourselves extra time and patience as you head out to that area. The road closures will end after midnight tonight.
