An 18-year-old Indiana man was charged in connection with an alleged threat made towards the Homer-Center School District.
State Police say that Spencer Thomas Baker is charged with felony terroristic threats following an incident on Thursday morning. Around 8:45 AM, several students at Homer-Center Jr./Sr. High School informed principal Jody Rainey that Baker allegedly sent a Snapchat video to an un-named student, showing him holding a shotgun and indicating that he was arriving at school. Troopers believe that he did not travel to the school.
Members of the Troop A barracks were notified of the video shortly after the report was made and they later found Baker at his home, and he was taken into custody without incident.
According to a letter sent to district parents, the district security team conducted a threat assessment and school security awareness was increased. Superintendent Ralph Cecere said that there is no threat to the students or staff, he praised the students for reporting the video to school officials.
In his letter, Cecere asked parents to discuss internet safety and responsible online behavior with their children and remind them of the importance of not engaging with strangers online and the importance of reporting any concerning messages or content.
