Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down over the month of July to a new record low.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that Indiana County’s rate went down seven-tenths of a percentage point to 3.6 percent. That is one percentage point lower than the same time in 2022. The state’s unemployment rate for the month of July is 3.5 percent, which is also a record low over the same period of time. The national rate was also 3.5 percent.
Westmoreland County has the lowest unemployment rate in the region at 3.1 percent. Then comes Indiana County. The unemployment rate for Armstrong and Jefferson County is 3.7 percent, with Clearfield County checking in at 3.8 percent. Cambria County’s is the highest at 4.4 percent.
Cumberland County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the state at 2.2 percent, while Forest has the highest at 6.7 percent.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the Indiana County area went down by 200 to 27,500 in July. Eight of the nine industry super-sectors were flat over the month. The only area that saw any change was Government, which took its normal seasonal dip of 200 jobs.
