On Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved accepting a donation for and installing and purchasing equipment for an inclusive playground at East Pike Elementary School.
The donation of approximately $60,000 came from the East Pike Community group, and the district will use that money and up to an additional $30,000 from the capital reserve to complete the project. Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that the project has received a lot of local support.
This playground will allow handicapped and able-bodied children to play together on the same playground. The project is expected to wrap up by next spring.
In other business, the board approved hiring Justin Zahorchak as Director of Education and Tara Maruca as Director of Special Education and Pupil Services. The two had been serving in those posts on an interim basis.
