With three school districts starting classes today and more tomorrow, buses will be out on the road this morning and afternoon loaded with kids. One bus company is making sure that drivers are reminded about the rules when it comes to school buses.
Smith Bus Company’s Chief Human Resources Officer Rich Serafin said that when the stop arm is extended and the red lights are flashing, drivers should stop, even at a four-way intersection.
Serafin also said that there is an exception to the rule, and that is when there is a barrier in the middle of the road separating the travel lanes.
State police said in a news release that if anyone is caught violating the rules concerning school buses faces a $250 fine, a 60-day suspension of their driver’s license and five points on their driving record.
