Many new hires were made at the River Valley School Board meeting Wednesday night, but chief among them were the new assistant superintendent and a consultant for the district’s comprehensive planning for next school year.
Superintendent Philip Martel made the recommendation to the board to hire Barb Mehalov as a consultant at a cost not to exceed $20,000, which will be paid out of the curriculum budget. Last year, the comprehensive planning was handled by Martel, but he said that this was something that he wanted assistance with.
Board president Rick Harper said that in the future, the district should be skilled enough to do it, and since there is a template in place for the program, it is expected to cost significantly less.
The board also approved hiring Regina Geesey as assistant superintendent of schools for a five-year agreement at a starting annual salary of $131,171.52
