The Pennsylvania Senate is returning to session today to move the state budget one step closer to completion.
Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward has announced that the Senate is being called back to Harrisburg for a session at 1:00 today to finalize the General Appropriations Budget. In her statement, she said that signing house bill 611 will provide necessary funding to schools, counties and other organizations. While this will complete 75% of the budget, the remaining 25% of the budget requires legislation to authorize expenditures.
Ward added that Governor Josh Shapiro has provided Senate Republicans with “assurances that the money for those programs will remain untouched until the legislature has finalized the language.” Until that budget language is finalized, the budget will remain unfinished.
Meanwhile, the State House is not set to return until September.
