The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect for most of Indiana County today from 11 AM to 9 PM.
Accuweather says that temperatures in our area will get to the lower 90s today, which is one of the warmest days this year so far, but humidity levels are expected to drive the heat index to up to 104 degrees. Accuweather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said that this is because the “heat dome” responsible for record highs in the west is making its way east.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids; stay in air-conditioned environments and out of the sun, especially during the warmest parts of the day; and to check on neighbors and family members.
OSHA is also advising those working outdoors to take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
