State police have released more information the crash that took the life of a Cherry Tree man.
Bedford County’s coroner Rusty Styer had initially identified the victim as 38-year-old Kevin Kutzler, Jr. of Cherry Tree. State Police out of Bedford County say that three others, including Kutzler’s 8-year-old son, were also hurt in the crash. The crash happened near Northbound Mile Marker 4.7 on I-99 in East Saint Clair Township. Kutzler’s vehicle crossed the “fog line” on the East Side of the road and hit the rear driver’s side bumper of a car parked along the roadway. After impact, the vehicle spun out and rolled onto its roof. The car then continued to slide north in the right lane before coming to rest on its roof. Kutzler’s vehicle was then hit by another SUV and he was ejected from the vehicle. The driver and two other passengers involved in the second crash were taken to UMPC Altoona, while Kutzler’s son was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
Kutzler’s official cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy was scheduled to be performed yesterday.
