State police from the Punxsutawney Barracks are investigating a case of theft in Smicksburg. Troopers say that the theft happened between July 2nd and 10th in the area of Eileen Drive and Glade Run Road. The construction company Rail Works of Lakeville, Minnesota reported the theft of about 100 railroad tie plates from the area. The plates are valued around $2500. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call police at 814-938-0510.

State troopers have released more information on a vehicle crash reported on July 7th in Ernest. Police say that a 16-year-old Ernest boy was driving a Yamaha dirtbike in front of a 14-year-old from Creekside who was riding a Polaris ATV on Store Hill Road. The dirtbike driver slowed down and was rear-ended by the ATV, causing the Ernest boy to fall off his dirtbilke. Both were injured, but the Ernest boy was taken to IRMC and later lifeflighted to a Pittsburgh-area hospital for treatment. The ATV driver refused treatment.
