State police confirmed that the man who attacked a woman at Keeper of the Flame in Blairsville was apprehended in Georgia.
Police say that Michael A. Whitfield of Greensburg is accused of attacking a 60-year-old woman at Keeper of the Flame in Blairsville and stealing her car. He ditched the car in Derry, robbed a food truck and then stole a truck before leaving the area. State police say that he was in the truck when he was pulled over by police in Chatham County, Georgia.
Whitfield’s crime spree goes back to Monday in Westmoreland County as police in Greensburg said that he stole a car a few days after he was released from prison on bail. During the attack on Wednesday, police say that Whitfield used a box cutter and slashed the 60-year-old twice. Police also say that a nine-year-old in the vicitm’s SUV was able to jump out as the suspect was driving away.
Whitfield is charged with attempted criminal homicide, attempted kidnapping and attempted kidnapping of a minor, robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery-inflicting serious injury, terroristic threats and two counts each of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. No word yet on his arraignment.
