A woman from New York state was sentenced Friday in Indiana County Court for charges stemming from earlier this year.
Court documents say 31-year-old Justine Ida Lavair, who is originally from Mastic Beach, New York but is listed with an address at the Indiana County Jail, was sentenced to serve 27 to 60 months in a state correctional facility for a felony charge of receiving stolen property dating back to May 3. Blairsville Borough Police say around 10:00 that night, they were called to Route 22 just before the Route 217 ramp for a reported disabled vehicle. When police ran a check on a 2008 Nissan Altima with a New York registration, they discovered it was stolen from Albany. Lavair started to flee after officers asked her to step out of the car and jumped over a nearby guard rail in her evasion attempt. Once officers took her into custody, she tried to resist arrest and fought with the officers until backup arrived. Police say she also gave them a fake name.
Also sentenced was 22-year-old Ivy Allison of Creekside, who was sentenced to serve one year of probation for a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The charge stems from an incident in October when Clymer Borough Police pulled over a car driven by 35-year-old Steven R. Marsh and found suspected heroin, cocaine, acid, meth, and marijuana, along with multiple drug-related items in the vehicle. Allison, who was a passenger in the car, was arrested on paraphernalia charges and police later discovered that she was wanted on prior warrants.
Marsh was sentenced for the incident in May.
