Authorities have not released any new information about a fatal shooting that involved a state trooper along Route 119 early Monday morning.
State police said that the shooting happened during a chase through Center Township and Homer City Borough that started at 11:55 Sunday night, when the suspect, identified only as an adult male, fled as police tried to pull him over in the area of Yankeetown Road and Lockard Avenue Extension. The chase went onto township and borough roads before going onto Route 119. The shooting happened near the intersection of Route 119 and Tide Road. The suspect was hit by gunfire and while police rendered aid, he died at the scene.
The State Police’s Major Case Team, the county DA’s office and the county Coroner’s office are conducting their own investigations into the case. According to State Police policy, the troopers involved remain on administrative duty while the investigation is going on.
