A woman from New York State is due in Indiana County Court today to enter pleas in connection with a case that happened last month.
31-year-old Justine Ida Lavair of Mastic Beach, New York is charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and evading arrest or detention on foot for the incident on May 3rd. Blairsville Borough Police say that around 10:00 that night, they were called to Route 22 just before the Route 217 ramp for a reported disabled vehicle. When police ran a check on the 2008 Nissan Altima with a New York registration, they discovered it was stolen from Albany. Lavair started to flee after officers asked her to step out of the car and jumped over a nearby guard rail in her evasion attempt. Once officers took her into custody, she tried to resist arrest and fought with the officers until backup arrived. She also allegedly gave officers a fake name.
A formal arraignment hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, and a pre-trial conference is set for July 21st.
