At a meeting Wednesday night, the River Valley School Board approved a new contract for superintendent Philip Martell.
According to the agenda, the board had to accept Martell’s resignation before approving the new five-year agreement with a starting annual salary of $170,352. Board President Rick Harper said that the resignation was needed as the board wanted to extend Martell’s contract before the final year of the current agreement came up.
The new agreement passed by a vote of 6-3 with Beverly Carnese, Jessica Clawson and Melanie Pantalone voting no.
In other business, the board passed the 2023-24 budget. The budget balances at $36,571,753, and there will be no tax increase for district residents.
