Today is Flag Day and there are some closures in effect.
It is not a federally-celebrated holiday, which means that federal government offices, banks and post offices are open for the day today. State government offices will be open today as well. On the county level, Indiana County’s row offices and county courts are closed in observance of the holiday. If you have any business on the municipal government level, call the office first to see if they are open today.
A Flag Day celebration being put on by the Elks lodge is scheduled to be held today, weather permitting. It is scheduled for 12:00 at the Oakland Cemetery, and it will also be the dedication of the Garden of Honor in the Oakland Cemetery, where first responders and veterans will be honored. The site features a 100 foot-tall flagpole with a 50-by-30 foot American flag. The dedication was scheduled to take part on Veterans’ Day last year, but it was postponed due to inclement weather.
