PennDOT has announced that the process for Pennsylvanians to get a Real ID has become a bit easier.
A Real ID will allow people to board airplanes for domestic flights and enter federal government buildings. As part of that, several forms of ID need to be provided by the applicant to receive the designation, including proof of identity, proof of a social security number, two proofs of a physical address, and proof of all legal name changes. For the social security number requirement, PennDOT will now accept either a social security card, a W-2 form, an SSA-1099 form, a non-SSA-1099 form or a pay stub with the applicant’s full name and social security number on it. The expansion was made in an effort to make the process of getting a Real ID easier.
Those interested have three options to obtain a Real ID. They can order online if they have been pre-verified and their Real ID will be mailed to them within 15 days, they can visit a PennDOT Driver’s License Center to have their documents imaged and verified and wait up to 15 days for the product to be delivered, or head to one of thirteen Real ID centers in the state and receive their Real ID at the time of service. Enforcement of Real ID will begin in May of 2025.
