For over two weeks, Indiana County has gone without a good rainfall, and that has affected groundwater levels.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Indiana County, like 93.3% of Pennsylvania, is listed in the abnormally dry category. Parts of Carbon, Luzerne, Schuylkill, Dauphin, Lebanon, Berks, Lancaster, York and Chester Counties in the southeast portion of the state are in a “moderate drought category”.
While no drought plans are in place, Homer City Borough Manager Robert Nymick did ask borough residents to voluntarily cut back on water use. There may be some relief coming this afternoon with some rain fall, but Accuweather is predicting only two-hundredths of an inch of rain today.
