An East Wheatfield Township man is now in Westmoreland County Jail on charges that he arranged a meeting with a 12-year-old girl to pay for sex.
41-year-old Anthony R. Laughard was arrested on Friday after an investigation conducted by agents of the state attorney general’s office. Laughard allegedly was in communication with the victim and her mother online starting in February. That communication continued until recently, when investigators said that he made arrangements to pay $350 for sex with the girl and four pain pills during a meeting in North Huntingdon. He admitted to being the person behind the communication after he was arrested. Investigators said they seized $350 and a pack of cigarettes he was supposed to give to the child’s mother.
Laughard is charged with unlawful contact with a minor, attempted rape, criminal use of a communications facility, and related offenses. No bail was set due to community safety reasons. A preliminary hearing is set for June 21st.
