Troopers say that over the four-day driving period, they investigated 651 crashes across the state, down from 775 the year before. There were three fatal crashes reported this year, which matched the total from 2022. Four people were killed in those crashes compared to three people last year.
There was a decrease in the number of people who were injured, down from 191 last year to 142 this year. A total of 59 alcohol-related crashes were reported, but none of them were fatal. Police also made 547 DUI arrests and issued more than 10,820 speeding tickets, 1,318 seat belt citations and more than 224 Child Seat citations.
On the local scene, Troop A, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties and all of Cambria and Somerset counties, investigated 41 crashes in the area, one more than last year. None of them were fatal. Nine people were injured, and four crashes were alcohol-related. A total of 31 DUI arrests were made, which matched last year’s total, and troopers issued 851 speeding tickets, 109 seat belt citations and three child seat citations.
