Fresh off the Memorial Day weekend, Indiana County’s first responders experienced a busy day on Tuesday. Out of eight total calls, three dispatched members of the Indiana Fire Association.
The first of their calls was at 2:37 p.m. for an automatic fire alarm at the Indiana Junior High School, however that was deemed a false alarm. The second was a vehicle accident along North Ben Franklin Road around 4:59. Assistant fire chief Ron Moreau said it was a rear-end collision involving two vehicles. No one was hurt and crews cleared the scene quickly. State police and Citizens’ Ambulance assisted on-scene.
The third call was a miscellaneous fire along Philadelphia Street in Indiana Borough around 5:12. Moreau said it was a small fire in a patch of mulch near Indiana First Bank. A portion of firefighters diverted from the aforementioned crash to extinguish the fire.
In addition to the three calls for Indiana Fire Association members, three vehicle accidents were reported in other areas of Indiana County.
The first sent Brush Valley Volunteer Fire Department and state police to Route 56 East around 1:14 p.m. with Armagh crews summoned to assist five minutes later. The next sent Armagh/East Wheatfield and Clyde fire crews along with Citizens’ Ambulance to Route 259 in West Wheatfield Township. The final crash was reported around 6:42 p.m. It sent Cherryhill Township Volunteer Fire Department, Citizens’ Ambulance and state police to Chestnut Ridge Road in Cherryhill Township.
No details are available on these accidents.
Plumville Fire Department was dispatched for one call, that being a tree down along Route 85 in South Mahoning Township.
