Those who died in combat were honored during parades and ceremonies throughout Indiana County on Monday.
During a ceremony held at Memorial Park in Indiana, Wesley Wertz and Donald Baker conducted roll call of fallen Indiana County soldiers from the most recent wars, such as Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Sheriff Bob Fyock, who oversaw the ceremony, said it’s important to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Also, as part of Indiana’s ceremony, wreaths were placed around the veterans’ memorial, one representing each war. And Indiana Area students Sam Knepper and Abby Josefowicz played a rendition of TAPS towards the tail-end of the ceremony.
Meanwhile, at a service at American Legion Post 493 in Homer City…
…roll call was held honoring soldiers from Homer City who died in combat. A prayer and a rendition of TAPS followed to close out the ceremony.
Indiana Fire Association also payed homage to fallen soldiers by raising the American flag in front of their station.
