First responders had a busy Sunday with several calls made to Indiana County 911.
Saltsburg and Tunnelton fire departments were summoned to a brush fire along Elders Ridge Road in Conemaugh Township shortly after midnight with Iselin Fire Department called in to assist a short time later. Tunnelton fire chief Dave Bruzda said it was a small fire along the roadside, but crews were able to control the flames quickly.
This marked the 59th brush fire in Indiana County this year.
Commodore and Clymer fire crews responded to what was initially deemed a vehicle fire around 5:40 p.m., but fire officials say it was a burning pile of logs, with the caller thinking a nearby trailer was on fire due to the amount of smoke surrounding it.
Elderton Volunteer Fire Department was summoned to an area along Route 422 West and Lawton Road in neighboring Armstrong Township around 9:11 p.m. for a physical rescue call. Officials say in a Facebook post that a man was stuck on a tower 100 feet high. Indiana Fire Association was called in to assist, and both crews were able to get the man down quickly.
A water rescue was reported around 10:46 p.m. along North Harmony Road in Cherryhill Township. Cherryhill Township firefighters and the county Water Rescue team were called in. And a vehicle accident rounded out calls 13 minutes later. Indiana Fire Association company three was called to South Ben Franklin Road in White Township.
