Today is the ribbon cutting on a new part of the educational offerings at Ben Franklin Elementary School.
The outdoor learning space will be located between the first and second grade wings of the elementary school, and is meant for kids to have classes outside through first-hand experiences and play. It will include a gathering place that has a whiteboard installed; a food court to enjoy lunch outside; a gardening area for the growing of flowers and vegetables; a sensory area for kids to work with water, sand and other materials; reading and fitness areas and an amphitheater for large group instruction.
The project was funded through donations to the school and by a contribution from the Indiana Kiwanis Club. The community is invited to attend today’s ceremonies, and there will also be an open house tonight from 6-7 PM.
