A safety sciences student organization at IUP was named an outstanding student section for 2023 by a national professional organization.
The IUP Safety Sciences American Society of Safety Professionals student section will receive an award of $5,000 to fund scholarships and research as part of the award. The student section is part of the Western PA ASSP chapter and includes about 100 students in the safety sciences major. The group sponsors a series of monthly meetings where safety and health professionals talk with the group on different topics and performs community service activities.
This marks the sixth time that the student section has received this honor. In their announcement, the AASP praised the student section for its strength in professional development, research and campus and community involvement. It was also praised for the strong technical meetings they hold with diverse topics and presenters.
