As we head into a traditionally busy weekend for travel, Triple A is reporting that gas prices in the western PA region are going down while the national average saw a slight increase.
The national average this morning is $3.54 a gallon, an increase of a penny over the last week, but 12 cents cheaper than last month at this time. Last year, the national average was $4.56. Gas prices are holding steady due to the low cost of crude oil and a decline in demand. That demand will traditionally go up this week, but experts are saying that this lull in demand could be a trend that goes through the entire summer season.
Pennsylvania’s average as of this morning is $3.65, a penny lower than last week and 13 cents down from last month at this time. Pennsylvania’s average last year at this time was $4.77.
Indiana County’s average is $3.72, putting it in the middle of our six-county region. The lowest average is $3.62 in Jefferson County, followed by $3.63 in Clearfield County. Cambria county’s average is $3.69, Westmoreland is at $3.73 and Armstrong county has the highest in the region at $3.74. Juniata and Northampton Counties have the lowest averages in Pennsylvania at $3.54 while the highest in the state is Forest County at $3.75.
Gas prices in Indiana, Homer City, Blairsville and Clymer this morning are hovering around the $3.72 a gallon average, according to gasbuddy.com
