On Tuesday night, the Blairsville Borough council gave preliminary approval to an ordinance concerning handicapped parking spaces.
Councilman Ab Dettorre said that the new ordinance will make things more accountable when it comes to people requesting handicapped parking spaces for their homes in the borough.
He also said that it will help the borough get a better idea as to how many spaces have been made handicapped for residents.
Once someone who requested the space either sells the property or moves out of their rental, the space will revert to a regular parking space. The new ordinance will be on display for 30 days before final approval in June.
In other business, Chief Lou Sacco updated the council on the new police radios that are coming through a grant that the borough worked with the Indiana County DA’s office and Indiana Borough Police. He said that the new radios are starting to come in. These will replace older radios that are no longer manufactured and cannot be repaired or replaced.
