An Armagh woman is now in custody after admitting to her part in a fatal hit-and-run crash last night in Westmoreland County.
According to Westmoreland County Coroner Timothy Carson, 61-year-old Barry Lynn Cassidy of New Florence was killed in the accident. He was walking North on 13th Street about a block away from his house when he was hit by a car that drove off after the accident. A criminal complaint showed that 52-year-old Melissa Anderson of Armagh admitted to hitting Cassidy to investigators. Police said that Anderson had taken heroin before the crash, and allegedly showed signs of substance abuse after police caught up with her.
She is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, accidents involving death or injury, DUI-controlled substance, and two summary counts of careless driving. Bail for her was rejected and she is now in Westmoreland County Prison. A preliminary hearing is set for May 26th.
