The Indiana Rotary Club has completed its annual donation of dictionaries to students in Indiana County.
One of the tenets of the Rotary Club is to make sure that children get access to a quality education. In 2006, the club started the dictionary donation project as part of that goal. The club this year donated 578 dictionaries to third grade students in Purchase Line, St. Bernard’s, United, Homer-Center, Seeds of Faith Christian Academy, Rayne and McCreary Elementary schools, Calvary Baptist, Ben Franklin and East Pike elementary schools and Penns Manor. Since the start of the project, over 12,000 dictionaries have been donated.
Co-chairs for the project include Indiana Rotarians Kay Smith and Arlene Schweitzer. They also helped with the delivery of the books along with Jeff Smith, Ramesh Soni, Sherry Skidmore and Bill Geiger. The club is always looking for volunteers to help with dictionary distribution in the future along with other projects.
