Drivers in Indiana Borough will see some extra bike traffic on the roads today as students will be biking to school.
Today is Bike to School Day and the Indiana County Active Transportation Committee will host a guided ride from the KCAC to Horace Mann Elementary School and the Indiana Junior High School. The doors open at 7:15 this morning, and participants are asked to meet by the doors facing the football stadium no later than 7:45 this morning. Bike riders will be guided to their destination by Indiana Borough Police, IUP Campus Police, and the Indiana County Sheriff’s office.
Parents are reminded that there will be no equipment provided for the ride. Kids must have a bike and well-fitted safety gear for their size and skill level. Parents are welcome to join in as well.
Bike safety will also be the topic of a seminar hosted by the Committee tonight at the Grace United Methodist Church. The seminar will teach bikers and drivers how to keep each other safe on roadways by practicing safe biking and driving habits and following the laws in place for each mode of transportation. There will also be an opportunity to practice using the bike racks on an IndiGo Bus outside near the 8th street Trailhead for the Hoodlebug Trail Extension. The seminar starts at 6:00 PM and is open to the public.
