On Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board passed the 2023-24 preliminary budget, and it contains a surplus.
The income comes to $20,083,414 while expenses are at $19,445,006. Under this budget, taxes will remain at 15.3768 mils. Superintendent Daren Johnston said the surplus of over $638,000 is due to ESSER funding that has been saved over the years.
He added that the board asked the administration to show what would happen if the ESSER funds would be exhausted next year.
In other business, the board approved an agreement with McClure Company to complete fire alarm upgrades in the district’s buildings at a cost of $119,270.
