An Armstrong County man was killed yesterday afternoon in a crash on Route 422 in Armstrong Township.
State police say 54-year-old Richard T. Toy of Ford City was traveling westbound when he suffered a medical emergency at 3:47 PM. Toy’s car sideswiped the guiderails and rode along them for about 960 feet at a reduced speed. When the guiderails ended near Wood Road, the vehicle continued another 80 feet where it hit head-on into a utility pole.
Toy was taken to the Indiana Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Elderton firefighters and Citizens Ambulance responded.
