A state trooper from Homer City is charged in connection with a fatal crash that happened last August in Salem Township.
Court documents show that 27-year-old Tyler Strini is charged with summary counts of driving at a safe speed, reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding for a crash on August 17th of last year. Strini was on his way home from his work as a state trooper in Uniontown when he rear-ended the car driven by 56-year-old John Farally, which was stopped in the right-hand lane at a red light on Route 66 in Salem Township. Investigators said that Strini did not slow down when he approached the intersection, but did stay to help first responders. He was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. State police investigating the crash said he did not appear to be under the influence and was not given a blood test at the time of the crash.
Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli said that the charges were based on the law and evidence, and that the evidence and accident reconstruction report did not suggest any further charges, including vehicular homicide, be filed. The case is listed as “active” as the courts are awaiting a plea from Strini.
