Before the regularly scheduled Indiana Borough Council meeting gets underway tonight, there will be a special hearing connected with IUP’s consideration of a school of Osteopathic Medicine.
That meeting will be held at 6:00 PM at the Indiana Borough Council Chambers at the George E. Hood Municipal Building. Last December, the IUP Council of Trustees approved a formal exploration of the idea of the new medical school. When it was first announced, IUP officials said that they would be in a “formal exploration” of the idea, saying that they felt there were not enough trained physicians that could provide health care to people in the state. The university says there is also a high demand for this type of medical education. There are only two schools in Pennsylvania that have an osteopathic program that are admitting students, and neither one is a public school.
The regular Indiana Borough Council meeting will start at 7:00, and on the agenda are two items: Approving a pride festival to be held Saturday, June 10th in Downtown Indiana at IRMC Park, and to award the paving bid for the borough to Quaker Sales, who has the apparent low bid of $196,150. This will include two additional change orders upon review by the solicitor.
