Preliminary hearings are set for Indiana County’s district courts today, including the hearing for a woman charged with stealing money from the United Band Boosters.
Court documents show that 55-year-old Lara Lee Brown of New Florence will go before District Judge Robert Bell, Sr. at 9:45 this morning to answer to charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and receiving stolen property. The incidents go back to August of 2019. She was the treasurer of the booster group when she allegedly took over $50,000 from the group’s account. Police say that she wrote checks, made ATM withdrawals and purchased items from several businesses without proper documentation or purpose to serve the club or its students, and that she had changed the address on the account so that statements would come directly to her. The funds were raised by approximately 134 students and were to benefit the marching band trip to Walt Disney World. She stepped down in December of last year.
She has been free on $100,000 bond paid by a professional bondsman.
Also due for a preliminary hearing today is a Blairsville woman who was charged with multiple drug-related counts connected with an incident in mid-February. The hearing for Kaitlyn Ashley Flickinger of Blairsville is set for 9:30 this morning in front of district judge Robert Bell, Sr. She is charged with 54 counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident on February 16th. Blairsville Borough Police found Flickinger in the Sheetz on East Market Street, and discovered that she was wanted on three warrants out of Cambria County. She was found with 53 stamp bags of drugs, along with 2.58 grams of meth and some drug paraphernalia.
