The preliminary hearing for a man charged in connection with robbing a convenience store in downtown Indiana earlier this month was continued.
Court officials say no date has been set for the hearing of 54-year-old Joseph Frances Hamay, who was scheduled to appear before Judge Susanne Steffee Tuesday morning to answer to charges of robbery with the threat of serious injury, robbery by force, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault, and possession for an instrument of crime. Those charges stem from an incident on April 6th when Indiana Borough Police were called to investigate a robbery at the Philadelphia Street Convenience Store.
Police say Hamay allegedly went behind the store counter and demanded cash while brandishing a knife. Surveillance footage and discarded clothing near the store aided police in identifying him.
Hamay has been in Indiana County Jail since his arrest, as he was unable to post $75,000 cash bail.
