Indiana County first responders were busy early Friday afternoon as two structure fires were reported.
Fire crews from Saltsburg, Tunnelton, Blairsville, Aultman, Coal Run/McIntyre, Iselin/West Lebanon, and New Alexandria, along with the county Hazmat team were dispatched to the area of Fox Run Road in Conemaugh Township around 11:58 a.m. for a brush fire that was later deemed a structure fire. Creekside, Parks Township (Armstrong County), Homer City, and Bell Township (Westmoreland County) fire departments were called for standby detail within a half hour.
According to Ab Dettore with the Blairsville Fire Department, crews were able to control the fire within an hour. Several tankers were also on scene and more than 1,500 gallons of water was used to control the flames.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
Then, fire crews from Vintondale (Cambria County), Brush Valley, Armagh and New Florence, along with Citizens’ Ambulance, were summoned to a home along Dilltown Heights Road in Buffington Township at 1:08 p.m. for another structure fire. Nanty Glo (Cambria County) and Seward (Westmoreland County) fire departments were called to assist around 1:51. Black Lick Fire Department was summoned for standby detail at 2 p.m.
Initial scanner feeds say heavy smoke was detected in the basement, and crews later found a hot patch at the rear of the home.
Crews are still tending to this incident. Details are forthcoming.
